Twas the week after Christmas and all through the nation
The retailers were troubled and lacked jubilation
The CEO’s growled just like a bear
In hopes that their stimulus soon would be there

The Dems were all nestled, all smug in their vote
Thinking that maybe this was all that she wrote
When out on Wallstreet there arose such a clatter
Hank Paulson spring from his bed to see what was the matter

The worst holiday season, for no one could buy
Sales had been flat since the fourth of July
Unemployment was peaking near eight percent
As one third of the county could not make the rent

Let’s play the blame game everyone said
It’s the left, no the right, well maybe the Fed
Away to the banks they flew like a flash
Tore open the floodgates and let loose the cash

The president-elect feet cold in the snow
Began to opine with his head hanging low
The truth of the matter, he said with a curse
A bad situation could become dramatically worse

It seems that borrow and spend without care for tomorrow
And a pile of bad bets has brought us very great sorrow
Now we’ve created a monster, a giant black hole
A transfer of wealth and a lack of control

If we had only listened to grand-ma and grand-pa
To live within our means and prepare for tomorrow
Instead we complained, cried and made a big deal
While the scoundrels ran off with all they could steal.

At Christmas time a sage said it best
Kids tell Santa what they want and adults do the rest
Government deficits are another thing still.
It’s when adults tell the government what they want and their kids get the bill.
