The Breen Machine and Other Links

We saw this man and his vehicle passing through Notrees on his way to Kermit.  We were headed east and he was heading west.  He's on a 30,000-mile trek in his CyclOcar, trying to set a world's record.  Read his blog post about his Notrees/Kermit adventure.  He even stopped at the Huddle House.

  • Also, Kermit is one of the safest cities in the U.S. according to Buzzle.com, who have never lied to me before because I've never heard of them.  (Scroll down after jump.)
  • The military's secret plot to hire or recruit bloggers!
  • The Church of Ireland's official blog mentions the KISD choir and their (then-upcoming) visit.

Deer Cupcake Award

Among blog awards, none is more prestigious and coveted than the Deer Cupcake Award!

Actually, the first I heard of it was when the great Neolibrarium awarded it to this blog back on June 5th, three eternities ago in blog time!

Now, this award is not entirely received by grace. In order to accept it, I must do some works of obedience, to wit:

  • I must answer all the following questions on this blog,

  • I must replace one question I dislike with a question of mine own invention,

  • and then I must add one additional question. Eventually, some poor blogger, who seeks to accept this award, will wind up having to answer a hundred questions, huh? But not today!

So, here goes. Some of these lies are true:

1). What is your current obsession?
I've been obsessed with helping my wife survive the school year. It's been a very rough one.

2). Where are you right now?
Kermit, Texas, in front of the computer. Where else?

3). Coffee or tea?
Sweet tea with ice. The larger the better.

(Odessa, July 4th.)

4).What’s one of your favorite movies?
The new Star Trek. Also, anything that shows up on Mystery Science Theater 3000.

5). What’s one thing you’re looking forward to?
A date night with Liz.

6). Who was your childhood crush?
The first one ever? Probably Kate Jackson as Daphne Harridge on Dark Shadows.

7). What is your (current) favorite Song?
"Wonders Never Cease" by Morcheeba.

8). What would you like to get rid of?
Excess pounds. And Widget, our mama cat. (See method illustrated below.)

9). What’s your favorite book?
Chick tracts are unique little pieces of Americana. Now I can read 'em all online and spend the rest of my day going "HAW HAW" to my (rapidly decreasing) circle of friends.

(SEE BONUS PARODY: The Satellite of Love discovers Chick's world.)

10). Why did you start your blog?
It all started when I discovered that ...

  • My city has a Muppet on its watertower.

  • "Weird Al" Yankovic belongs to my faith.

  • None of the above. I just like to hear myself yammer.

11). If money was not an issue, what is one thing you would purchase for yourself?
A movie theatre to show weird films. In Kermit. It would lose lots of money.
Also, I'd start a restaurant called "Woulda Coulda Shoulda", where you always wish you had ordered what someone else ordered.

12). If you could live in a foreign country, which one would you choose?
Djibhouti. I like the name.

13). What is one trait about yourself that you wish you could change?
I start things but I never seem to finis

14). Chocolate of choice?
Peanut M&M's.

15). What is one thing you've changed your mind about in the last ten years? I now think Journey was a pretty good band. I used to hate them.

16). What is one thing you've changed your mind about in the last ten days? I now think Keith Richards and Willie Nelson will outlive every last one of us.

17) If you had to choose between books and movies and could only read or view one or the other the rest of your life, which would you choose?
Books. Of course.

Okay. Now, in turn, I offer the Deer Cupcake Award to three wonderful blogs: The Blog Prophet for always being thought-provoking and funny, jel's place for saying so much without words, and Loom & Wheel just for being great. Have a great summer, everybody! HAW HAW!

Cat Cam: This is Fascinating!

I found this on an excellent blog called El Fin del Internet:

A couple in Seattle have a lightweight digital camera that they hook to their cat’s collar once a week and let him out. The camera snaps a picture every two minutes.

There is a blog and a Flickr photo page. The cat takes pretty good pictures. Check it out!

50

God put me on earth to accomplish a certain number of blogposts. Right now I am so far behind I will never die.

Well, you know, it's interesting being 50 ... You start to reflect on your life. And you look back over the years at everything you've ever done. And, with age, middle age, comes wisdom. But I have to say that I'm not sure that 50 for me is the same as 50 in people years. - Kermit The Frog

Yep, that space monkey turned 50 yesterday!  What a deal!

Vacation!

This blog will be on hiatus for about a week due to house painting. Or until the lovely and gracious Liz encourages Robert and me to spend some quality father-and-son bonding time elsewhere.

Thank you and have a great week!

Mis-Credited!

A blog called Msense copied my Heather Mills rat milk post and even linked back to it, but incorrectly said it came from an Indianapolis blog!

The Week in Review

It has been a busy week, and getting to the computer has been like getting to the ark of the covenant. So here's what is going on in the world:

1. The Christian Chronicle website was hacked and its front page was replaced by a message reading "Allah the only true God". Arabic characters were raining down on the screen. I can't read Arabic, but I bet they said "We're headin' to John Waddey's site next!"

2. James Dobson, if he stays on his current course, may help elect Hillary.

3. My Sitemeter inexplicably vanished for awhile, but now it's back. Things I've learned from it in times past:

  • Someone once reached the post about my mother by Googling "kill chicken". I just hope it wasn't an emergency.

  • A lot of people get to this blog by searching for "using stick figures to teach the Bible". I wonder what their reaction is when they get to the "Stick Figure Bible" posts?

  • People who Google "Kermit, Texas" get to 99 blogs about the Heroes TV show before they get to this site.

4. Liz got her first teaching observation this week, and her evaluation was great! Way to go!

5. High school football is almost a religion in these parts, and Kermit's team is doing great this year. They are 5-0 so far! In the last two games, their opponents didn't even score!

More later......

I've Been Discovered!

Well, hold everything! This blog got reviewed by webcogito.com, and here's what Jean Valjean said:

"Frogtown is the unique title given to the Blog written by David Kirk. No drama. No exploitation, no antics, and no Britney Spears pictures... just honest stories shared by an honest man. I highly recommend you stop by, read, and comment."

Thank you to the folks at WebCogito!

(And what happened next? Well, in Frogtown they say, David's ego grew three sizes that day!)
Just got back from a spiritual mountaintop of sorts - Ken Young was leading worship Saturday night and Sunday morning at Golf Course Road in Midland! It was great! We are the only people from Kermit who go to these sort of events. Our spiritual family in Wink just kind of scratches their heads at us.
Here's a Fred Thompson update - for those who need one! You know who you are!
